On Tradition opening reception, Moshava Art, NYC

Tomorrow, Thursday, September 24, from 6 to 8 PM, I'll be at Moshava Art in Greenwich Village with the five other artists in Moshava's first Artist Cohort to talk about our group exhibition, On Tradition.

The show is the result of a month spent working side by side in Moshava's studio, sharing meals at their table, and getting pushed by a handful of seasoned mentors. The theme is ritual, custom, and culture. Each of us came at it differently. My contribution comes from my Ground Work series, Tell it Slant, Painting Zero, Graft, and the sculpture Held: work built from secondhand clothing that's been cut apart, sewn back together, and stretched. Pockets, collars, and seams stay visible. The clothes carry the history of the people who wore them, and that history is the tradition I'm working with.

The format is a panel. Each artist answers questions from residency director Audrey Benzing about their practice and what the residency meant to it, followed by a short Q&A. Come ask hard questions. I'll be sharing the stage with Noam Levi, Gracey Massengill, Shani Nizan, Pam Y. Rim, and Margaret Ferrec.
