Last Call: On Tradition

Twelve weeks, six artists, one last night. Come see the garment paintings before they come off the wall.

"On Tradition," the Moshava 2026 Artist Cohort exhibition, closes Thursday, October 22, with a reception from 6 to 8pm. If you missed the opening in September, this is your last chance to see the work in person.

I have four pieces in the show from Ground Work: Painting Zero, 36x48 in., Tell it Slant, 36x48 in., Graft, 12x12 in., and a smaller sculpture, Held, 20x28x19 in.

You know the process by now. Secondhand clothing, cut apart, sewn back together, stretched, and left alone. What I didn't expect was how differently they read on a gallery wall next to five other artists working through the same question. "Tradition" turned out to be a good frame for clothes. Every garment carries one, whether it's my old work shirt or a pair of jeans someone wore through for years. The paintings just keep that record visible.

The closing has live music from TOONO, a New York duo with Ethan Lacey on tenor sax and Harry Ong on double bass. Jazz rooted in the Great American Songbook, pushed somewhere newer. Light refreshments provided.

Come say hello. I'll be there all night, and I'd rather talk with you in front of the work than about it in an email.
